Description

Answer the following questions as if you were giving advice to a student teacher.
How would I introduce a
discussion of my approach
to instructional design?

I have told my student teachers when they come on the first day that I am not the "orthodox" teacher that writes down plans. I don't follow a "template" or a calendar...I "wing-it"! That works for me since I have been teaching a while, but for a new teacher I would use the suggestions below.
What are my resources
for designing units and
lessons?

I have been teaching a while, so my resources are mainly things I have collected throughout the years. The way I teach is developed through of history of trial and error. I use books, websites, other teachers and manipulatives to create my lessons. The process of trial and error starts with ideas...I ask myself what would make the information I am teaching interesting, relevant and ingrained. For instance if I am teaching the circles unit in math I ask...What is a hands-on ways to teach this? Use circular objects of all shapes and sizes. Have the students measure them on their own. Is there a food connection? "Pi with pies" or a good story that connects like "Sir Cumference and the Knights of the Round Table". What can I do to integrate technology? The smart board has so many different ways to create and measure circles. These are just some examples.
What do I generally
do first?
